Here are three more bonus thoughts!

Make sure you have a trainer, coach or support group
It’s not only the top-20 who have a coach or trainer – anyone who takes a long-distance event seriously will do their homework and make sure they have the input, support (and intervention!) of someone who will help them reach that goal.

Acknowledge trade-offs to reach your goals
For an athlete, this often means early mornings, a change in diet and missing out on certain social events in order to get in the training that they need. It could also mean additional costs for special training sessions, the correct gear and entry into training events leading up to the main event.

Be willing to put in the hard work
Most fit, able-bodied athletes cross the finish line on their own two feet (or wheels…). No-one carries them over the finish line. They have had to take each step and sweat through the hard uphills, enjoy the wind in their hair on the downhills and take in the sights for the scenic bends. It’s not just about crossing the finish line; it’s about the joy and growth that happens through hard work along the journey!

Whatever your journey is currently looking like – remember that you can reach out at any stage for a quick chat or longer conversation. We’re in this race together – so let’s enjoy it and finish strong.
